Hami
Haami, meaning "Ally" in Farsi, is a Farsi-language mobile app that provides vital support to Iranians grappling with addiction. It offers daily readings, access to support centers, online resources, progress tracking, relaxation tools, and crisis support with counselors. The app is designed to help users maintain sobriety, destigmatize addiction, and encourage a culture of recovery. With over 75,000 downloads, Haami has become a trusted recovery tool for individuals and their families, enabling users to feel less isolated and more empowered on their recovery journey.
Key Features
- Hajar Moradi, Creative Director at Vivido Studio
“Working with Milad has been an absolute pleasure. His deep understanding of the projects we collaborated on was evident in every aspect of the production. We had the pleasure of designing the branding and UI/UX design and creating promotional and educational animations for some of the products Milad was leading.
Milad's creative approach and technical expertise contributed to the quality of the work, making him an invaluable partner in bringing ideas to life. We look forward to more collaborations in the future!”
Initial Development & User Research
As part of the first Irancubator cohort, Haami was the only product that secured funding for a new version due to its growing user base. In the discovery phase, we initiated a comprehensive user research process, which included:
Focus Groups with Users and Counselors: Sessions were held to identify existing app shortcomings and user expectations, with insights used to shape the app's redesign.
Key Findings: The research revealed that users valued tools for daily motivation, crisis support, and the ability to track their recovery progress. Additionally, both users and counselors emphasized the need for a more intuitive interface, improved content, and stronger community features.
Ideation & Prototyping
With the user research complete, we initiated a full redesign of Haami’s user experience:
Storyboard & User Actions: Developed visual narratives of user interactions, focusing on typical recovery scenarios and app usage.
User Flow Diagram: Mapped out the complete user journey, defining steps for accessing different features, such as crisis support, guided meditation, and progress tracking.
Wireframes: Created basic wireframes to establish the app's layout and content structure.
High-Fidelity Prototypes: Built detailed, high-quality prototypes reflecting the updated design and layout. These were tested with focus groups, users, and counselors to ensure alignment with recovery needs and effective counseling support.
Delivery & Launch
Once the redesigned app was validated by user testing, we began in-house development, focusing on delivering an improved UI/UX and implementing robust features:
Security Testing: We collaborated with Cure53, a third-party firm, to conduct penetration testing, ensuring that Haami met high security standards.
Beta Testing: Before the full release, we engaged users, counselors, and focus groups for extensive beta testing, ensuring the app met accessibility, security, and usability standards.
Marketing & Feedback: Post-launch, we worked closely with the marketing team and counselors, addressing bugs and iteratively improving the user experience.
Sustained Impact & Open Source Transition
By the end of the IC2 program, Haami had established itself as a reliable and effective tool for recovery support:
Open Source Transition: To ensure sustainability and future development, we open-sourced Haami’s code and published it on GitHub, enabling other developers and recovery advocates to contribute to its growth and adaptation.
Transition to Local Management: We successfully transitioned app management to the local team, ensuring continued support for users and further development of new features.
Local Distribution: Due to restrictions, Haami is no longer available on Google Play. It now operates on local app stores within Iran, ensuring continued access for its primary user base.
